PIERRE SHUNGITE – HIS HISTORY
The rock known as shungite, also known as Chingite or Schingite, takes its name from the Russian village where it is mined. This natural mineral is found in the north-western region of Karelia, near Lake Onega, and the village of Shunga has the only known deposit to date. Although shungite has a similar structure to other rocks due to its high carbon content, it is actually derived from the mineralization of plankton, some of whose deposits date back billions of years. According to Russian legend, Peter the Great opened Russia’s first thermal baths on shungite deposits, and the Martsialnye Vody spa was used for over three centuries to relieve pain and illness. Recently, studies have revealed the presence of fullerenes, molecules composed partly of carbon, in the resort’s thermal waters.
According to legend, Peter the Great recommended a shungite-based drink to his soldiers to effectively combat dysentery, which was subsequently named “Waters of Mars”. For the last ten years of his life, he lived in seclusion in the spa he had founded to alleviate various problems. In 1996, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Professors Robert Curl, Richard Smalley and Harold Kroto for their discovery of fullerenes, molecules found in shungite thermal waters. Research carried out by doctors at the St Petersburg Military Medical Academy concluded that the use of these thermal waters was beneficial in treating a number of ailments. Shungite is also useful in the preparation of remedies and water filters to regulate the body. A quotation from the 1649 collection of Laws and Histories of the Russian EmPire, Volume 5, states that the curative effects of shungite water were witnessed by Peter the Great and several nobles who were cured by using it. Until recently, it was considered that there was no multi-cellular life two billion years ago, which is the dating of shungite ore.
Recent discoveries have challenged the assumption that shungite is two billion years old, claiming that the rock could have arisen through marine deposits of ancient microorganisms or be a meteorite remnant from the hypothetical planet Phaeton. Whatever its origin, shungite stone is unique in today’s world for its structure and healing properties. It treats, purifies, protects and regenerates, and is even beneficial for enriching soils. In the Karelia region where shungite is mined, it has been found that the concentration of this natural rock in the soil is proportional to the size of the potatoes grown. Not only is shungite beneficial to health, it is also aesthetically beautiful, with its deep black color and silvery or ochre veins. Many people use shungite in filters and remedies to bring serenity and balance and to cleanse their environment. It is effective in harmonizing the place where it is placed and does not let any negative effects through.
The exact composition of shungite is not yet known, but research is underway to reveal it. DesPite this, many theraPists recognize its benefits and use it regularly in their healing practices. Lithotherapy advocates the use of rocks whose properties have long been established, but shungite has been recognized for centuries for its protective powers. A case in point is St. Isaac’s Cathedral in St. Petersburg, built between 1801 and 1881, where a 25-centimeter-high shungite plinth was installed. Research continues to prove the beneficial impact of shungite on electromagnetic fields and geopathological zones. Shungite is effective against electromagnetic radiation emitted by cell phones, wifi waves, TV sets and other electrical appliances.
SUNGITE STONE – ITS ORIGIN AND COMPOSITION
There are many commercially available rocks that go by the name of shungite, and they all look very different from one another. This is simply due to their concentration of fullerenes, which varies from rock to rock. The two most common types of shungite are silver shungite, which contains almost 98% fullerenes and is therefore the rarest, and black shungite, which is more common, containing between 50% and 70% fullerenes. Below 50%, it is no longer referred to as shungite, but as “shungite rock”. It’s important to note that the heavier the rock is for the same size, the less pure it is, as it contains more silica, which diminishes its energetic properties but doesn’t cancel them out completely. Black shungite, which dates from the Precambrian period, lies between anthracite and graphite. There is currently no other stone with the same healing properties in the world, as it is the only one containing fullerenes, a recently discovered molecule composed of spherical ions. Shungite is a godsend for improving health and maintaining a strong immune system. When immersed in water, it unleashes its full healing potential and relieves many ailments.
